OBEDIENCE

Group Class

Adventure Prep: Obedience

When: Mondays and Thursdays 6:45PM

Where: Dogma | 236 Crossroads Boulevard, Carmel, CA 93923

In this recurring drop-in class, set your dog up for success by teaching them the basic obedience skills to thrive in real-world situations (e.g. outdoor patios, the beach, hiking trails). Learn and practice dog training cues in the classroom which will eventually be put to the test in dog-friendly public settings.

Open to dogs of all breeds and sizes

Prerequisites

  • Dogs ages 6 months and older

  • No previous training required

  • This group class is not suitable for reactive dogs. If your dog barks, growls, or lunges at other dogs or humans on walks, please reach out to us to schedule private training so we can provide individualized support to achieve your goals.

What to Bring

  • Flat collar and optional body harness

  • Standard 4–6 foot leash (please leave bungee and retractable leashes at home)

  • Training treat pouch worn around your waist, fully stocked with 2–3 types of treats your dog loves

Pre-break treats into pea- or rice-sized pieces before class.

Bringing a variety helps keep your dog engaged and motivated. When the rewards are novel, it is easier to keep your dog's attention and focus.

High-value options such as freeze-dried beef liver, cooked chicken, string cheese, or small pieces of hot dog are excellent choices when introducing new skills in a distracting new environment.

Monterey Dog Adventure Guides and Trainers use Wilderdog treat pouches and utility pouches.

Work towards your AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Title

Work towards your AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title with guidance from our incredible trainer, Katie. This nationally recognized certification validates your dog’s obedience, social skills, and real-world manners.

The CGC is often a prerequisite for therapy dog programs and can strengthen housing applications, making it a meaningful milestone for many dog families. More importantly, it represents a strong foundation of communication, trust, and reliability between you and your dog.

Whether your goal is therapy work, advanced training, or simply raising a well-mannered companion, the CGC sets the standard, and we’ll help you get there.
