For one of the most breathtaking coastal walks on the Monterey Peninsula, the 17-Mile Drive Trail between Spanish Bay and Seal Rock offers a front-row seat to some of California’s most iconic ocean views. This scenic stretch winds alongside the world-famous 17-Mile Drive, giving you and your dog a chance to experience Pebble Beach’s rugged shoreline, crashing waves, and dramatic sea stacks, all at a relaxed walking pace.

Ideal for leashed dogs and their humans who love ocean air and panoramic vistas, this trail provides a peaceful, visually stunning outdoor experience without venturing too far from civilization.

Dog-Friendly Highlights

  • Free parking available near Spanish Bay and Seal Rock access points

  • Garbage cans located at various pullouts and viewpoints

  • Well-maintained coastal trail with breathtaking views and ocean breezes

  • Dogs must remain on leash at all times

  • No restrooms, waste bags, or water stations, bring your own supplies

What to Expect

The 17-Mile Drive Trail follows the coastline between Spanish Bay Beach and Seal Rock, tracing the same route as the famous scenic drive but on a pedestrian-friendly path. The terrain is mostly flat with packed dirt and gravel sections, making it a comfortable walk for both people and dogs. Along the way, you’ll encounter wild dunes, windswept cypress trees, and lookout points where you can pause to take in the ocean’s power and beauty.

Because amenities are minimal, it’s best to come prepared with water, waste bags, and layers for changing weather. The trail can get windy, especially in the afternoons, so early mornings or sunset walks tend to be the most comfortable.

Tips for Visiting

  • Bring fresh water and waste bags, no dog-friendly amenities are available

  • Keep dogs leashed for safety near the road and to protect wildlife

  • Use garbage cans at designated pullouts to dispose of waste responsibly

  • Enjoy free parking near Spanish Bay or Seal Rock trailheads

  • Visit early or on weekdays for a quieter experience and easy parking

  • Users will need to bay the Pebble Beach entrance fee to access the trailhead
