What to Expect

Garland Ranch Regional Park spans over 4,400 acres of protected open space managed by the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, offering a variety of trails for every fitness level. Dogs are welcome on and off leash on all marked trails, which wind through shady forests, along creeks, and across grassy ridgelines with sweeping valley views.

The park is well-maintained and includes convenient amenities such as restrooms, garbage cans, and waste bag stations, making it easy for dog owners to enjoy a clean and responsible outing. Because there are no dog water stations, it’s important to pack enough water, especially on warm Carmel Valley days.

Wildlife is abundant here, with deer, hawks, and even the occasional coyote sighting, so keeping dogs leashed helps protect both them and the local ecosystem.

Tips for Visiting

  • Bring plenty of water for you and your dog, only water station is at the visitor center

  • Keep dogs within 20 feet at all times and on marked trails

  • Utilize the waste bag stations and garbage cans near the trailhead

  • Take advantage of free parking at the main lot

  • Start early in the day to avoid heat on exposed trails and enjoy cooler morning temperatures
